Association for the Prevention of Torture

OPCAT

Torture is still prevalent in most countries around the world. So the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) helped put together OPCAT, a government-adopted system to increase transparency in all places where people are deprived of their liberty. APT asked us to create an animation that would raise awareness of the system and encourage every country to adopt it.

Problem

Despite being inhumane and illegal, in most countries around the world, torture is a horrific practice that destroys the dignity of those deprived of their liberty. One of the biggest problems is that it takes place behind closed doors, away from public view, which makes it incredibly difficult to prevent. To help fight this, the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) was set up in 1977. It was one of the driving forces behind the OPCAT, a system adopted by governments to increase transparency in all places where people are deprived of their liberty. Now the challenge is to get every country to adopt it.
