The International Rescue Committee’s work has never been more needed: there are more displaced individuals than any time in history. To extend their impact, they held a 2016 fundraising gala, attended by New York’s leading journalists, philanthropists and businesspeople. Many attendees came with minimal understanding of the non-profit’s work, which meant the IRC needed to bring the impact and urgency of their efforts to life, quickly.
Helping viewers understand the IRC’s work wasn’t enough; they needed to live it. So we threw the conventional approach to fundraising videos out the window. We cut out the big numbers, the “proof points” and the pleas for help. We stripped the video down to the stark reality of displacement, and let viewers experience it for themselves.
After watching the film, viewers donated $10 million to the IRC, a 100% increase from their previous year’s gala.
